A Great Resource for Piano Technicians

I am a piano technician who is always seeking new material to continue my education. I found this book to be very enlightening. It is full of useful information and checklists for prepping instruments for concerts, or any other occasion really. The book covers every aspect of the profession including tuning, regulation, voicing, and customer/artist relations. I particularly enjoyed the stories and interviews that are inserted throughout the book. The author's writing style kept me engaged. I highly recommend this to other piano technicians.

About the Author
Stephen A. Mitchell (1946–2000) was a leader in the field of modern psychoanalysis. An adjunct professor and clinical supervisor at New York University's postdoctoral program in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, Mitchell’s emphasis on the relational perspective shaped the way that American psychoanalysts practice their profession. He was the founding editor of the journal Psychoanalytic Dialogues and the author of several influential books, including Object Relations in Psychoanalytic Theory and Hope and Dread in Psychoanalysis.

Margaret J. Black, LCSW, is founding board member of the Stephen Mitchell Center for Relational Studies. She is also a board director of the National Institute for the Psychotherapies, a founding board member and vice president of International Association for Relational Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy, an associate editor of Psychoanalytic Dialogues, and a member of the editorial board for Studies in Gender and Sexuality. She holds a BA from the University of Michigan and an MS from Columbia University, and is a graduate of the Analytic Institute, Postgraduate Center.

A classic text on psychoanalytic theory but **not really a new edition.

Overall this is a classic summary of the different schools of psychoanalysis since Freud, described in the lucid style we have come to expect by the late Stephen Mitchell. However, other than a new forward, the book seems word for word unchanged from the prior edition. The clinical examples therefore come across as dated, and the chapters on 'contemporary' theorists and "controversies" are stale. So I regard the label "new edition" as deceptive on the part of the publishers..

Professor Wilson is trying to bring awareness back into the Town's museum by holding a costume themed fundraiser. After a rather strange and disturbing dream, the professor starts to experience a sequence of ghostly events that occur in and around the museum. An arranged 'ghostly' visitation punctuates a gathering which ends up being the front page news story the following day. This creates mayhem for the professor and intrigue to the residents of this once quiet sleepy town. All the while the professor is unaware that there are perpetrators in the midst trying to steal valuable paintings from the museum, which were many years ago, unintentionally hidden away by a previous curator of the museum. The unwelcomed publicity causes an outraged Vera Finkelstein to rethink her involvement and to come up with an alternative to her cause. The professor, together with the help of his friends, which also includes a mother and her two children, begins to unravel the mysterious episodes that he encounters to the lead up of the fundraiser event. Unexplained fog, hidden tunnels, sances, an encounter with an old lady whose mansion is said to be haunted and other sequences of unexplained events result in a finale of a ghostly invasion to help the professor and his clan save the hidden and unbeknownst treasures from being stolen by the thieves.

This is great mystery which had me guessing till the final pages. I love the way this writer describes the scenery and characters in great detail. I fell in love with the characters and felt as though I knew them all personally. The ending was action packed with an unexpected surprise and I didn`t want the story to end. I can`t wait to read more by this author, I just absolutely loved it.

This is an absolute gem of a mystery

This is an absolute gem of a mystery. Totally enjoyed the story and the characters are so endearing, by the end of the story I felt as if I knew them all personally. This writer has really captured the essence of how a good mystery should be. I kept guessing if there really was a ghost or if it was some perpetrator and just when you thought you knew, came another twist and turn. The ending totally surprised me and somehow I kept thinking that this really should be a movie seen on a big screen. Thoroughly entertaining for all ages and recommend this story to anyone who enjoys a good fantasy, mystery.

Easy to use, interesting, an essential for every Russian language student

This book makes one of the most celebrated authors in history truly accessible to Russian language students. The book is designed with a user-friendly format including wide pages, frequent illustrations, and frequent bold words to define vocabulary. This is a book that any Russian language student can use to not only enjoy Dostoevsky, but also to understand Russian cultural practices and to expand Russian vocabulary subset. While roughly 2/3 of the book is dedicated to Dostoevsky's text and translation, 1/3 contains English explanations of cultural practices described in the text, English explanations of events, vocabulary lists and definitions, as well as vocabulary exercises and oral activities by chapter. The best part: there's an answer key for every exercise in the back. If you've taken even one semester of Russian, this is a must have.

This book is perfect for anyone is in the process of learning Russian and interested in exploring the literature of the language. It does a fantastic job of guiding you through the hard passages with along-side vocabulary words and comprehension questions to keep you constantly aware and engaged in the material. The fill-in the blank vocabulary exercises also do an excellent job of allowing the reader to practice the complicated words in the passages, while providing a summary of each chapter. You no longer have to be afraid of Dostoevsky's writing style--this book really makes everything clear.

Julia Titus has done a wonderful job of making the original Dostoevsky text accessible to students who have not yet reached advanced/native fluency. A wonderful new hymnal

I don't read Korean (I can laboriously sound it out if I need to, but I don't know the language so the results rarely merit the labor). I say this off the top so you'll know that my review is based on the hymnal's English content, for the most part.

This is a wonderfully diverse collection of hymns (334 of them counting praise songs and service music items) and also has 58 pages of liturgical matter in the front and 144 pages of psalms (with antiphons) and canticles in the back. And although the Amazon description may lead one to think that this is a Korean-language hymnal (and it certainly was designed with Korean-American congregations in mind), it is actually completely bilingual, indeed, the most thoroughgoingly bilingual hymnal I have ever seen. It has by far the largest number of singable English versions of hymns originally written in Korean that I have ever seen, and some of them, at least, are not only singable but worth singing. The only items I have found that are not really bilingual are the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis (pp. 536-537, where I don't see how the English texts can be sung to the tunes provided, which are fitted to the Korean texts.

The book was produced jointly by the Presbyterians (PCUSA) and the United Methodists, with the latter apparently responsible for the selection and editing of hymns. I gather each denomination published a separate edition containing the same hymns and psalms, but church-specific liturgical matter.

If you like hymns, I recommend it, even if you know no Korean.

Pathetic.

The fact that this is one of the top-ranking books on Amazon for Spring is indicative of a broader necrosis in Java-centric technical writing and (in my opinion) the failings of the technology as a whole. In this text we have what appears to be someone's lecture outlines from a CS class, with no explanation, error-ridden code, and no context. Even by following the code examples by rote one cannot drive any useful information from this text because it's never clear WHY things work the way it suggests they do. An example from near the beginning of the text:

"@Qualifier

This annotation can be applied to classes, methods, fields, constructors and parameters of a bean class to allow for great control in using the correct reference types. The following example demonstrates the use of the @Qualifier annotation. In this example, the @Qualifier annotation is applied to the member of a class."

Followed by a single code example of a partial class, wherein the @Qualifier annotation is tossed onto one of the class's members, with no explanation as to why or what the annotation is actually doing there. Horrendous.

This is a very poor book and I would strongly recommend avoiding it.

lacks detail explaination, "Step by Step" without full example code and output is not always shown.

The author does a one line explanation in the beginning of the section followed by a:
"Create POJO classes", "Create application context" ..
followed by "SOME" implementations.

My first problem in the beginning of the books, at "Object creating using factory method pattern" at page25 where is "FoodItemDVO"?
where was this object defined? if a beginner was to follow your example by code, their example would not have compiled.

In the "Bean dependency configuration Using Depends on" he provides the COMPLETE implementation for BeanThree
without mentioning BeanOne and BeanTwo. I understands that this may be used to shorten the length of the book. and is not such a problem in simpler concepts.

I have only gotten as far as page 50 and I think this book requires alot more explanation and more complete code.

Step by Step Approach missing quite a few Steps.

This book starts ok and the chapters contained look like they should give a great introduction to using Spring. Unfortunately, it fails miserably. Many steps are missing in this "step by step approach". The descriptions within are lacking and there is nothing in the book related to setting up an IDE to write code using the examples. I guess you are supposed to write the code with a plain text editor and use the java compiler manually. Except, no one really does that. One chapter explaining a setup would have helped.

As an example of steps missing. In the section on using Spring in web environment (which really should be the bulk since that is how it is mostly used), there is an example of using plain JSP. Except the JSP code given requires JSTL. The book clearly states for Case 1, JSP without JSTL. But no example code. No description of what it should do. You are left guessing The WAR file shows 8 files in it. Example code is given for 3 of them with a reference back to 1 if you can find it.

There is just too much missing from this book to be of value.
